Something about this holiday week makes it feel like we are finally in the midst of Summer. While during Winter I could wear the same black sweater for a week straight in hibernation, once the sun comes out, I want to be out and about and wearing cute outfits. This feeling often comes with the desire for new clothing, however there are plenty of garments already out in the world, so many in fact that the pile of discarded clothes in the Atacama desert is so massive it can be seen from space. I’ve been finding everything I have my eyes on for a Summer wardrobe secondhand, so for this newsletter, I sourced preloved pieces so you too can enjoy #secondhandsummer in items *new to you*.
As a reminder, since these are vintage and secondhand finds some items might be sold out by the time you click on a link, maybe even by another subscriber! If bummed about missing out on something, reach out and I can source another one or something similar for you!
Vacation dressing favorites
A Summer set, like this Faithful the Brand one on Poshmark. It doesn’t have to be a “formal” set, I purchased just the beach shorts in yellow on poshmark and plan to pair with a vintage linen button down I already own.
Vintage Paloma Picasso pink sunnies, As a previous jewelry designer for Tiffany, I think her preloved pieces are underrated. Not only are they more rare, they are 1/5 of the cost of a pair new Celine sunnies.
Vintage Missoni , I love me some Missoni, especially when I can also have a Summer spritz in hand.
Pucci Bucket Hat, Nothing gets me in the mood for Summer like a Pucci print + the hat is cotton so will pack easily.
Easy Breezy White Dress, the detailing on this vintage one is so beautiful. You could wear it as a swimsuit coverup or layered with a sweater draped over your shoulders for exploring a quaint European town.
Linen Button Down, This is my most worn item of the Summer. period.
Raffia sandal, I found my favorite pair at a local boutique in Comporta, they were handmade in Morocco, a very similar style to these Carrie Forbes ones. To search for these in your size google ‘Carrie Forbes Sandals’ and then click the leaf icon that says used and you will see plenty on poshmark, TRR and other secondhand sites!
Prada Crochet and Cotton Dress , a friend sent me this one saying it reminded her of me, I’m obsessed with the crochet detail but I’m sharing the love with all of you.
Black and White Summer
As I was doing a Summer closet clean, I realized I had two categories “vacation clothes” and “regular life clothes.” The vacation pieces are mostly bright colors and something I might only wear a few times a year at most when actually somewhere strong spf is needed. Whereas my “regular life” pieces are more shades of neutrals (read: black). To get more wear out my clothes (and thus reduce a garment’s environmental footprint), I looked for Summer items that could easily transition between vacation and city life. You could say the classic black and white is the ‘quiet luxury’ trend or maybe just a New Yorker who knows that black/white staples are surefire year-round.
Ciao Lucia crop top, here in large and here in medium.
Chiapas tote, If you’ve known me since the Future & Fauna days, you might already have one and know how versatile this tote is. When traveling, I always throw one in a suitcase. The ones in my etsy shop are made from a women’s co-op in Chiapas, if purchasing elsewhere, make sure you are supporting the real artisans as I’ve seen some companies try to knock them off :/
White Poplin Dress, I found this SIR one on poshmark, you can see how I styled it here.
Prada black patent demi-wedge sandals, I’ve had a pair of these for a few Summers now and they are a tried and true favorite. They are easy to walk a lot in (an important shoe factor for Summers in the city) and I always get compliments when I wear them.
Black and White Vintage Knit Missoni dress, As forementioned, I love a Missoni moment in the Summer, the classic pattern and colorway makes this dress easy to toggle between weekend and weekdays.
Vintage Chanel Wrap skirt, this one really hits the nail on ‘quiet luxury’ but how chic as a swimsuit coverup poolside and then with a white button down back at work.
White Linen Short- I personally prefer a slightly tailored short like these, just add a belt + blazer and voilà you are a put together professional. I also found these tailored cotton shorts I’m into. There are a lot of options out there, I searched ‘vintage tailored linen short’ and found the best results on ebay and etsy.
Monse Silk Open Back top - I would pair this with the white linen short for Summer and could keep wearing it into the Fall with jeans.
