New Year, Old Clothes
A belated Happy 2023!
As we enter into a new year, many of us are thinking about resolutions and goals to improve our lives. We often set resolutions and restrictions about what we put into our bodies, like starting Whole30, no sugar, no drinking. While those can be the reset you might need, what about setting resolutions surrounding what we put on our bodies? Here are some ideas for goals and resolutions to change up your shopping habits in 2023:
No new clothes: Set a goal to swap, rent, borrow, or purchase preloved. (Don’t forget, if looking for something specific, you can always reach out to have it sourced secondhand.)
Quit fast fashion
Try a shopping ban. A shopping ban is A period of time during which you pledge not to buy anything new, with the exception of necessities like food and toiletries. Some people do a one-month shopping ban, while others go for a whole year! It's a great way to break the habit of impulse buying and can help you save money too.
Make a list in advance of events coming up you might need something special for, let’s say a wedding., Thinking about it in advance allows you time to look at secondhand shops, rent something or ask a friend to borrow.
Set a one-in, one-out policy: For every new item you bring into your home, make a habit to pass along one that you no longer wear. This eliminates fashion hauls and encourages you to think more critically about the things you bring into your life.
If your goal is to have a more sustainable closet- don’t throw out what you already have and buy new pieces, the most sustainable clothing is what you already own!
By taking a more mindful approach to shopping, we can reduce our environmental impact while also saving money, and creating less clutter in our lives.

One of my 2023 goals is to keep growing the Something Borrowed, Never New community. I would love any thoughts and feedback on topics you want to read about, categories of items you want to see preloved options for, or people you want to hear from. If you wear #somethingborrowednevernew, please share as well to be featured on our ig.
