I binged Running Point and Now Only Want to Wear Power Suits
here are a bunch of vintage and secondhand options to make that dream come true
Kate Hudson’s new show Running Point is exactly the type of show of lighthearted escapism I want to watch these days, it’s quick and entertaining, and it gives girlboss without the ick. I laughed, I teared up, but what really captivated me was Kate’s character, Isla’s, power suit collection. As soon as she wore the butter yellow set that was a clear nod to the infamous How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days dress, I was googling trying to find out what brand is was, (it’s Sandro) and how to find vintage versions so I too could give her level of confindence and style, both of which evolve with the show.
Marie Claire talked to costume designer Salvador Pérez about how they wanted to lean into her feminity while also alluding power. Kate gave approval on all of them, and some, like the pink Gabriela Hearst came from her personal closet. The insane bag collection, those were from Mindy Kaling’s collection!
just shared a bunch of birkins for those of us without professional sports team family money that would all go nicely with your new/old suit options below. This started as a selfish search, but then after I spent more hours than I want to admit on
and other secondhand sources, I wanted to share all of the suit sets I found in a wide range of colors, sizes, and budgets. ICYC- I did found one for myself that will be making it’s debut at a Circle of Friends event later this month.See all of the suit sets I sourced here or keep scrolling for images of options!
Notes on sizing:
Vintage sizes often vary from sizing today, get out your tape meausure and measure yourself alongside the suit and pant measurements provided to ensure it will fit the way you want it too.
If you want more of that effortlessly cool oversize look, try sizing up and then if needed, have your tailor take a tuck out of the waist or wear a good belt. A tailor could also shorten the sleeves so that it is oversized in the body but hits at the right lenght on your wrist.
Don’t be afraid of shoulder pads! They will add structure and help with the oversized shape.

While Isla mostly wore a pant suit, as I went down the secondhand rabbit hole, I found some really good vintage Thierry Mugler sets that reminded me of another power suit player, PR exective, Samantha Jones.
